Starting your homeschool can be confusing and overwhelming. Here are a few steps to help simplify the process:
1. Know the law. Homeschooling is legal in the state of Texas but there are a few easy requirements. The Texas Home School Coalition's web site explains the law very well at www.thsc.org/Categories3.aspx?Id=Its_Legal.

2. If you are withdrawing your child from public school you need to inform the school district. The Texas Home School Coalition has a sample letter you can use at www.thsc.org/Categories.aspx?Id=Withdrawal_letter.
3. Determine what subjects you want to teach and look for curriculum. There are many places that sell curriculum online. We have a few listed on our links page. Christianbook.com and rainbowresource.com both have very nice catalogs. The Homeschool Store is located in Houston. You can browse through the books and the store is staffed by homeschoolers who are very willing to help. They also have a nice section of used books. Don't forget the local library. It's a wonderful resource and it's free!
4. The fun begins! Make your schedule and your lessons plans. Every family is different. Schedule your day to suit your family.
